Currently Reading- Slaughterhouse Five

image

Slaughterhouse Five, written by Kurt Vonnegut, is 'one of the world's greatest anti-war books'. It follows the life and time travels of Billy Pilgrim, focusing on the horrific fire bombing of Dresden in the second world war.

I'm about half way through this book, and I already know that it's going to be one of my favorites this year. I love the fact it's not a 'normal' war story, it doesn't exclusively focus on war so is able to tackle really intense issues and situations without being too heavy.

I also like the time travel/sci-fi elements; they break up the linear time stream, and are absolutely hilarious. Billy Pilgrim is such an unlikely main character. It seems as though he's been plopped into situtations
and doesn't quite know how to cope, which really allows the reader to empathize with his reaction.

Like I mentioned, I already love this book, and can't wait to see where it goes from here!
