5 things to do on Christmas Eve

I actually think I’m one of those people who enjoys the run up to Christmas more than Christmas day itself. Christmas eve is by far one of my favourite days, I love cosying up with family and looking forward with anticipation to the next day. Here is a few ideas about what to do today to get yourself in a Christmassy mood!

1. Light a fire

If you’re lucky enough to have a wood burner or open fire, or even an electric one, now is the perfect time to light it. It’s just as much about the light and crackly noises it gives out as the heat- the room seems to get so much cosier once the fire is lit! If you don’t have a fire, you could light a few candles or even turn some fairy lights on. They’ll both re-create the warm fire feeling and make the room a lot more Christmassy!

2. Have a bath

I LOVE baths. Ask any of my friends at university and they’ll tell you that the thing I moan about most is not having a bath at uni! I don’t care how good your shower is, nothing will beat having a nice long soak in a warm bath. If you like you could add something to make your bath smell more Christmassy, but either way some nice warm water and bubbles will do the trick!
3. Christmas Top of the Pops

This is by far my guiltiest Christmas eve pleasure, and my family will definitely disown me for saying this but I love Christmas top of the pops. They crack out all the classics every year, complete with vintage music videos and ‘live’ performances (I don’t think they even used to try and cover up the miming in the 80s) so you really can’t beat it. Don’t worry, I looked it up and it’s on at 21:00 on BBC 4 on Christmas Eve 2016, so make sure you don’t miss it!

4. Tidy

Okay so this might seem boring, but for me nothing beats waking up in a nice tidy room on Christmas day! It doesn’t take long, just put on some Christmas music or a film and put everything away and have a hoover- you’ll thank yourself for it in the morning!

5. Read a book!

Would this really be a book blog if I didn’t mention books at least once! Christmas Eve is the perfect time to curl up and read one. At the moment I’m reading ‘The Sun is Also a Star’ by Nicola Yoon- it’s so good read something that isn’t for university!

I’m so excited for Christmas, and I hope you are too! Let me know what you’re hoping to get and how you usually spend your day- Only one more sleep to go!
