My favourite books to read at Christmas

First of all apologies for the slightly different pictures in this post! I had to take some before I left St Andrews, and took the rest while I've been at home.
I think winter is one of the times where most people will read a book. The nights are getting shorter, the days colder, and everything seems more cosy. For me, there are certain books that I reach for during the winter:

1. A Christmas Carol
I don't think I could write a book-related post about Christmas without mentioning Charles Dickens at least once! The Victorians more or less invented Christmas as we know it, and I think 'A Christmas Carol' embodies this. I first read it a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. As much as I love watching the films it was great to read the original book.

2. Jane Eyre

Winter is a great time to re read your favourite books, so this is why Jane Eyre is in here! I find it such a cozy read, there is definitely something comforting about knowing what is going to happen next.

3. Haroun and the sea of stories
This is another of my favourite book, and inkeeping with Jane Eyre, one I frequently re read in the winter. Childhood favourites are another nice thing to reread at Christmas, they normally get overlooked on our shelves!

4. HG Wells
Short stories are another thing I'm drawn towards at Christmas, and those by HG Wells are by far my favourite. I like that you can start and finish them in one sitting so you can be totally absorbed by the plot.

5. The Luminaries

Okay so I haven't actually read this one, but I'm planning to get to it this winter! I like to have a really big book to work my way through when it's dark and cold, and this one had been on my shelves for a while!
So, which books are you planning to read this winter!
